The Other End of the Lead

A three-part series by Chris Brooks

Understanding ourselves. Understanding our dogs. Growing together.

Dog training is often focused on what we want our dogs to do. We teach skills, address unwanted behaviours and work towards better outcomes. But there is another important part of the picture: the person holding the lead.

Our experiences, expectations and decisions influence how we approach training. Our dogs bring their own personalities, histories and needs to the relationship. Understanding how these two individuals interact can help us make better choices and develop more effective ways of working together.

At D.O.P.E Dog Training, our philosophy is built around Dog Owner Personal Education. We believe that educating the owner is an essential part of understanding the dog.

This series explores three connected areas: understanding ourselves, understanding the relationship we share with our dogs, and turning that understanding into practical, lasting progress.

Because better training starts with better understanding.
