Manchester
Covered from a Macclesfield base. Busy pavements, traffic and small gardens are normal working ground.
Dog training for Manchester dogs and Manchester streets.
City dogs meet things country dogs never do. Buses and trams, crowded pavements, other dogs passing at arm’s length, small gardens, shared stairwells, deliveries at the door, and noise that never really stops. D.O.P.E Dog Training works with Manchester owners from a base in Macclesfield, one to one, in the places your dog actually struggles.
There are no group classes. A hall full of excited dogs is the last thing a city dog needs, and it teaches the owner nothing they can use on a Tuesday evening on their own street.
The three things city owners ask for most
Lead walking that survives a busy pavement. A dog who can pass another dog without lunging, barking or freezing. And a house that settles when the doorbell goes. Those three cover most of what we are called about in Manchester, and all three are trainable.
How we work
- First the Assessment: the dog, the household, the walk, and an honest prognosis
- Then a level of the D.O.P.E System, eight, ten or twelve one-to-one sessions
- Then the real world, on your own street, at your own door, at your own pace
Where the issue is narrower, a single-subject MasterClass can be enough on its own. Lead Walking and Control is the one Manchester owners book most, and House Training and Calm Living suits flats and terraces where space is tight.
Reactive and anxious dogs
Close quarters make reactivity worse, and a city gives a nervous dog nowhere to retreat to. If your dog is lunging, barking or shutting down whenever another dog appears, start with anxiety and reactivity rather than general obedience. If there has already been a bite or a near miss, go straight to aggression rehabilitation and do not wait for the next incident.
Puppies in the city
A city puppy needs socialisation of the right kind, which is not "meeting as many dogs as possible". Puppy Fundamentals builds calm around traffic, crowds and other dogs, and a puppy consultation is a sensible first step if you are not ready for a full programme yet.
We also cover Macclesfield, Cheshire and Staffordshire.
